Bearcats split pair against William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State softball split a doubleheader against William Jewell Wednesday evening.
 
The Bearcats moved to 18-14 overall while William Jewell moved to 5-21 overall.
 
GAME ONE
The Bearcats got it rolling early with four runs in the first inning. With the bases loaded, Abby Nolte earned a walk to tally one run, and then in the next at bat Lauren Gray was walked which brought home the second run of the inning. Two batters later, Madison Friest reached on a fielder's choice and Olivia Daugherty was then able to post yet another Northwest run. Avery Anderson followed that with a single to left field which brought Gray home for the fourth and final run of the first.
 
It wasn't until the top of the fourth when William Jewell was able to scratch two runs across the plate to bring the score to 4-2 in favor of the 'Cats.
 
In the fifth, Omara Love reached on a fielding error by the Cardinals which allowed Brylee Kemper to come home from third.
 
In the bottom of the fifth William Jewell scored its third run of the game, but Northwest still had a 5-3 lead heading into the sixth.
 
Daugherty hit a double to right center that resulted in Lela Bryant and Lillie Filger scoring in the top of the seventh.
 
The Cardinals had no response as the Bearcats took game one, 7-3.
 
Daugherty and Bryant both tallied two runs in the matchup.
 
Jadyn Streigle went the distance recording four strikeouts and allowing three runs on nine hits.
 
GAME TWO
William Jewell was the first to strike in game two as the Cardinals recorded one run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead heading into the third.
 
Northwest posted its first run in the fourth inning courtesy of a Lauren Gray solo shot over the left field fence.
 
The Bearcats struck again in the fifth inning after Abby Nolte singled down the right field line allowing Omara Love and Olivia Daugherty to score and give Northwest its first lead of game two.
 
The Cardinals responded in the bottom of the inning with one more run to close in on the Northwest lead at 3-2.
 
William Jewell took the lead in the bottom of the sixth scoring three runs on two hits and taking a 5-3 lead heading into the seventh.
 
The Bearcats got one runner on in the seventh but couldn't manage to get a run across the plate.
 
William Jewell took game two, 5-3.
 
The trio of Omara Love, Lillie Filger, and Lauren Grey all had a team-high two hits in the game.
 
Hayden Simmons was tagged with the loss giving up three runs on two hits with one strikeout.
