TOPEKA, Kan. - The No. 27-ranked Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team snared a 4-3 victory over the No. 19-ranked Washburn University Ichabods Saturday.
Northwest is 11-3 overall and 3-0 in MIAA action. The Bearcats moved their winning streak to five in a row. Northwest has won eight of its last nine duals.
The Bearcats took a 1-0 by scoring wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of
Vera Alenicheva and
Tessa Kwakernaak took a 6-3 win over WU's Casie Curry and Marta Torres. The No. pairing of
Tyffaine Pais and Angela Per Moreno notched a 6-2 victory over WU's Isabella Martensson and Issabella Pensavalle.
No. 59 ranked Pais recorded a three-set win over No. 19-ranked Maja Jung at No. 2 singles to spark the Bearcat dual win.
Carolina Lima De Oliveira came up with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles over WU's Maddie Shelley.
Per Moreno clinched the 4-3 win with a three-set triumph at No. 5 singles. Per Moreno posted a 7-5, 5-7, 6-0 victory over WU's Martensson.
