MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State softball team earned two wins in a doubleheader against the Newman Jets Saturday afternoon. The 'Cats took game one, 5-0, and game two, 5-1.

The Bearcats improved to 17-13 overall and 3-5 in the MIAA.

The Jets drop to 10-20 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

GAME ONE
With
Olivia Daugherty on second base and
Skylar Pieper on first,
Abby Nolte stepped up to the plate and smashed a home run to center field to give Northwest a 3-0 lead after one inning of play.

In the top of the fourth,
Avery Anderson made it to third off Newman errors and
Omara Love scored to put the 'Cats up 4-0. In the next at bat,
Lela Bryant singled to left field which allowed Anderson to come home.

Northwest came out victorious in game one by a score of 5-0.

Jadyn Streigle pitched the full game allowing just four hits and striking out two batters.
Â
The Bearcats forced the Jets to go three up, three down in the second inning, fifth inning, and sixth inning.
Â
Northwest outhit Newman by three in the matchup.
Avery Anderson was the only Bearcat to have more than one hit as she finished game one with two.

GAME TWO
Northwest was the first to score in the second game of the doubleheader as
Olivia Daugherty singled to right center which allowed
Lillie Filger and
Omara Love to score.

Newman managed to score one run in the top of the second, but the Bearcats quickly responded in the bottom of the inning. Once again Daugherty singled and Filger scored to give Northwest a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth Northwest was able to capitalize off a Newman error that allowed both
Skylar Pieper and
Avery Anderson to score, bringing the score to 5-1.

Northwest took game two by a final score of 5-1.
Â
Breck Dickey went 4.0 innings giving up only one run on six hits while striking out five batters.
Hayden Simmons finished the game allowing one hit and striking out one batter.

Olivia Daugherty each had two hits in the contest.
