Bearcats take game one against WSC, 2-0, but drop game two in extra innings, 8-7

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State softball team split a doubleheader with the Wayne State College Wildcats at the Bearcat Softball Field.
 
The Bearcats move to 15-11 overall and Wayne State moves to 5-18 overall.
 
GAME ONE
The Bearcats took game one by a score of 2-0.
 
Abby Nolte hit a single up the middle in the first inning that scored Avery Anderson and put the 'Cats up 1-0.
 
Northwest scratched another run across in the fifth inning when Skylar Pieper scored on an error.
 
Wayne State had the bases loaded in the seventh, but the Bearcats managed to hold them scoreless and tallied the 2-0 win.
 
Jadyn Streigle recorded the win going 7.0 innings allowing seven hits and striking out eight batters.
 
Northwest had six hits in game one. Nolte was the only Bearcat with two hits.
 
GAME TWO
Wayne State got on the board first in game two as the Wildcats scored one run off a double in the top of the first.
 
The Bearcats had an answer in the bottom of the second courtesy of an Abby Nolte solo home run over the center field fence to knot it up at 1-1. Later in the inning, Lela Bryant hit a sacrifice fly which allowed Omara Love to tag and score from third and give Northwest its first lead of the game at 2-1.
 
In the bottom of the third, Nolte stepped up to the plate and hit her second straight solo home run of the game to bring the score to 3-1 heading into the fourth.
 
Wayne State tacked on its second run of the game with a single to right that scored the runner from second in the top of the fourth.
 
In the top of the sixth, the Wildcats tied it up at 3-3 with a solo home run to right center. Two batters later, Wayne State took its first lead of game two after a runner scored from a Bearcat error. In the next at bat, the Wildcats scored their third run of the inning to give WSC a 5-3 lead over Northwest.
 
The lead didn't last long as the Bearcats scored three quick runs in the bottom of the sixth. Lela Bryant scored the first run off a groundout by Skylar Pieper. With a runner on third, Olivia Daugherty smashed a two-run homer over the center field fence to put the 'Cats back on top, 6-5.
 
With two outs in the top of the seventh, the Wildcats hit a line drive to right field which allowed the runner on second to come home and tie the game at 6-6. WSC then took the lead off an RBI single to right center. Heading to the bottom of the seventh, Wayne State had a 7-6 lead.
 
Pinch runner Cora Schweitzer tied the game once again in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 7-7 and send it into extra innings.
 
WSC scored one run in the top of the eighth off a single up the middle to give the Wildcats an 8-7 lead.
 
The Bearcats couldn't manage to add a run in the bottom of the eighth as Wayne State came away with the game two victory, 8-7.
 
Northwest had 11 hits in the second game. The trio of Lillie Filger, Abby Nolte, and Omara Love all had two hits. Nolte and Olivia Daugherty both had two RBIs.
 
Breck Dickey started game two for the 'Cats and went 4.0 innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out eight batters. Hayden Simmons and Raven Defrain both went 2.0 innings, and both allowed four hits and three runs. Simmons tallied three strikeouts and Defrain was tagged with the loss.
