MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team rallied with a three-run ninth inning in the second game of a doubleheader to earn a split on Sunday vs. the Emporia State University Hornets.
Emporia State took game one, 8-2. Northwest's three-run ninth gave the Bearcats a 10-9 win in the nightcap.
In game one of Sunday's doubleheader the Northwest Missouri State University baseball team dropped the series opener vs. the Emporia State Hornets, 8-2.

Northwest jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning following an RBI sac-fly from
Alex Bowers scoring
Cole Slibowski.

Slibowski tallied two hits, Northwest had four hits as a team.

Northwest would tack another run on in the third inning when
Ryan Koski scored on a double steal to bring the Bearcats lead to 2-0.

Max Spitzmiller was great in his start going 6.0 innings surrendering one earned run while striking out a season best 11 Hornet hitters.

The Bearcat bullpen was tagged with seven earned runs bringing the final score to 8-2 Emporia State,
Jacob Gajic was tagged with the loss.

In game two the Bearcats rallied to walk it off in the ninth on an RBI single from
Jacob Selock.

Northwest was in a deficit early after the Hornets posted a five spot in the top of the third inning chasing Bearcat starter
Zach Wiese.

Northwest would answer with four of their own in the bottom of the third thanks to a
Ryan Koski three run home run and a
Ryan Williams RBI single to center field.
Â
Northwest would take the lead at 7-5 in the bottom of the sixth on a pair of RBI doubles by
Evan Tocmo and
Cole Slibowski.

Slibowski was 5-7 in the leadoff spot for the Bearcats in both games of the doubleheader.

Casey Stalzer was great out of the bullpen logging 3.1 innings surrendering one earned run and striking out four.

Northwest held a 7-6 advantage heading to the top of the ninth and the Hornets struck for three runs on a pair of errors on Bearcat infielders.

Northwest tied it up in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run single from
Caden Diel after loading the bases with one out.
Evan Tocmo was then hit by a pitch and
Jacob Selock walked it off with a single to left field scoring
Layne Shiers.

Trevor Russell was credited with the win.
