SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team recorded a 4-3 win over the Drury Panthers at the Cooper Indoor Courts on Friday night.
It marks the first Bearcat women's tennis win over Drury since May 10, 2006. Drury had scored 16 straight dual wins over Northwest since 2006.
Northwest moved its season mark to 3-1 overall, while Drury fell to 4-2.
The Bearcats gained the upper hand in doubles by scoring wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The No. 1 pairing of
Sofia Pignataro and
Carolina Caetano Reis notched a 7-5 win over Maria Ugarte Espejo and Clara Kuehnle. The No. 3 pairing of
Tyffaine Pais and
Angela per Moreno secured a 6-2 triumph over Kseniia Eremina and Leana Chanove to secure the doubles point and give Northwest a 1-0 dual lead.
Pais scored a crucial three-set win at No. 2 singles to lift the Bearcats to the team win. Pais scored a 7-6, 0-6, 7-6 victory over Kuehnle at No. 2 singles.
Caetano Reis and per Moreno posted victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to boost the Bearcat effort.
