JOPLIN, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State baseball team lost its sixth straight in a 6-1 loss vs. No. 10 Illinois Springfield in Joplin, Mo.
Northwest fell to 1-8 on the season and Illinois Springfield went to 2-3.
Illinois Springfield jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second after a sac fly and a RBI single to center field off of Bearcat starter
Max Spitzmiller. Spitzmiller was given the loss, he was tagged with three earned runs on nine hits while striking out four in 6.0 innings of work.
The Prairie Stars added two more in the fifth, and one in the sixth.
Northwest got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with one of their five hits when
Evan Tocmo lifted his first home run of the season to left field to bring the Bearcats within four at 5-1. Tocmo was 2-3 on the day.
Illinois Springfield tacked another one on in the seventh to ultimately make it 6-1.
Jackson Meyer struck out two in 1.0 innings of relief.
The Bearcats are back in action tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. vs. Minnesota State.
