OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team came up short in its spring-opening dual against No. 19-ranked Angelo State University.
ASU topped Northwest, 4-2.
The Bearcats dropped the doubles point as Angelo State captured wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Northwest bounced back with a couple of straight sets victories at No. 1 singles from
Vera Alenicheva and No. 2 singles from
Tyffaine Pais to take a 2-1 dual lead.
Angelo State evened the dual at 2-2 when Christine Jevicky scored a three-set win over Northwest's
Tessa Kwakernaak at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
The Rams took a 3-2 dual lead with a crucial three-set win at No. 4 singles by Eva Schwartz over Northwest's
Carolina Lima De Oliveira, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
ASU clinched the victory with another three-set triumph at No. 5 singles. ASU's Ayda Guler took down Northwest's
Angela per Moreno , 6-3, 0-6, 6-2.
Northwest will match up with UT Tyler in Oklahoma City on Saturday.
