OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The No. 15-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's tennis team opened its season with a 4-0 victory over Midwestern State University.
The Bearcats got wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to secure a 1-0 lead in the dual. The No. 2 pairing of
Fabien Calloud and
Michael Delebois churned out a 6-2 win over Juan David Duque and Luis Diaz Argente. The Bearcat pairing of
Fillippo Piranomonte and
Andrea Zamurri at No. 3 doubles picked up a 6-2 victory over Charles Heffeman and Philip Kamara.
No. 33-ranked
Andrea Zamurri began his singles season with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Charles Heffernan at No. 1 singles.
No. 30-ranked
Michael Delebois recorded a 7-5, 6-2 triumph over MSU's Luis Diaz Argente at No. 2 singles to take a 3-0 lead in the dual.
Fabien Calloud scored the clinching victory as he was forced to three sets at No. 3 singles. Calloud took the opening set, 6-3, but dropped the second set to Germano Setti, 6-2. Calloud held a 5-1 lead in the third set before Setti knotted up the match at 5-5. Calloud regrouped and finished off the victory, 7-5.
Northwest (1-0 overall) will take on UT Tyler in Oklahoma City on Saturday.
