ALVA, Okla. - The Northwest Missouri State baseball team's comeback came up short, 7-5, in game two of a four-game series at Northwestern Oklahoma State.
The Rowdy Rangers took an early lead after tagging Bearcat starter
Zach Wiese with two unearned runs in the second inning.
Northwest answered back with a two run third inning thanks to an RBI double from
DJ Heck and a RBI single by
Trey Morris.
Northwest took the lead in the top of the fourth after
Ryan Koski lined a double to right field scoring
Cole Slibowski after he reached on catchers interference to leadoff the inning.
The Rowdy Rangers chased Wiese in the bottom of the fifth after a leadoff solo home run and then a base hit to start the inning. Northwestern Oklahoma State went on the score five runs in the inning to regain the lead at 7-3.
The Bearcats threatened in the top of the ninth after a lead off triple by
DJ Heck, Heck scored on a wild pitch a couple pitches later to get the 'Cats within 3. Later in the inning
Cole Slibowski scored
Brady Miles on a two-out RBI double to make it 7-5 but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats fell short 7-5.
DJ Heck recorded his second consecutive multi-hit game going 3-5, Heck has four multi-hit games on the season.
Slibowski, Miles and Koski all recorded two-hits on the afternoon.
Northwest is back in action tomorrow once again at 2 p.m. at Northwestern Oklahoma State for game three of the series.
