EMPORIA, Kan. - The Emporia State University Hornets scored a 3-0 win over the Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer team in the quarterfinals of the 2023 MIAA Tournament.
The loss ends the season for head coach
Marc Gordon's Bearcats at 8-5-6 overall. The Hornets were able to snap Northwest's six-match shutout streak with two first-half goals and another in the second half.

Emporia State got the action started with a goal in the seventh minute of the game from a goal by Hadlie Lowe. Shortly after, the Hornets struck back with another goal by Anna Burnett in the 28th minute to give ESU a 2-0 lead at the break.

Northwest had six total shots in the first half compared to 11 for Emporia State. Bearcat goalkeeper

The Hornets kept their foot on the gas and scored another goal from leading MIAA-scorer Mackenzie Dimarco in the 58th minute of the match. Â

Northwest was outshot for the sixth time this season, 16-13. Northwest had five shots on-goal in the contest. Adell Gore led the Bearcats in shots taken (5) and on-goal (3).Â
Each squad had four corner kicks.

Ellis provided five saves on the day to bring her career total to 158, which ranks seventh all-time in Bearcat history. Â

Northwest had five seniors on the 2023 squad – Teagan Blackburn, Kaylie Rock, Maddie Taylor, Atiana Stratman and
Grace Wineinger. All five seniors provided great success on and off the field. Â
