Bearcats, Hornets battle to 2-2 draw

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer team broke out of its scoring slump and netted a 2-2 draw with the visiting Emporia State University Hornets at the Bearcat Pitch.

Emporia State got the action started with a goal from Mackenzie Dimarco in the 13th minute.  
 
Northwest answered back with a goal at the 16:40 mark on an unassisted goal from Ashton Dain. It marked the first career goal in Dain's Bearcat career that has spanned 52 matches. The goal from Dain stopped a scoring drought for Northwest that had spread over five matches and lasted nearly 353 minutes of action.
 
The Bearcats then waited only a little more than 10 minutes for its next goal. Adell Gore gave the Bearcats a 2-1 lead in the 27th minute. Gore's goal came on an assist from Dain, the second assist of her career. It was Gore's third goal of the season and the 11th of her career. Gore is tied for No. 9 all-time in Bearcat history with her 11 goals.
 
The lead did not last long as Dimarco scored her second goal of the match and her 11th career goal against the Bearcats. Dimarco's equalizing goal knotted the match at 2-2 in the 30th minute.
 
Both teams relied on their defense in the second half as the match ended in a tie, 2-2.  
 
Northwest had 14 total shots in the game (seven on-goal) as Emporia State had 18 shots (12 on-goal).  
 
Bearcat goal keeper Lily Ellis had a busy day saving 10 total shots to move her career total to 114.  
 
The Bearcats are now 3-4-4 on the season, 0-2-2 in the MIAA.  
 
Northwest is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. as they host No. 25 Washburn.
