Bearcat soccer closes MIAA regular season with victory, sixth straight shutout

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer team closed its MIAA regular season in style with its sixth consecutive shutout in a 2-0 win over the Missouri Western Griffons.

Northwest (8-4-6 overall, 5-2-4 MIAA) extended its shutout streak to six in a row and remained unbeaten in its last nine matches (6-0-3). Northwest has not allowed a goal in 621 minutes of action.
 
Adell Gore got the scoring started in the 31st minute when she found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season, unassisted. Gore had four total shots in today's match. Gore's goal gave Northwest a 1-0 lead at intermission.
 
Shortly after the break, Ekaterina Theoharidis scored in the 49th minute of the match. Theoharidis glided by defenders to notch her third goal of the season that provided the Bearcats a 2-0 advantage.
 
Northwest didn't hold back on shots taken as it produced 17 total shots, nine of those coming on-goal. Northwest out-shot Missouri Western 17-10.
  
Kaylie Rock led the way in total shots (5), four of them on-goal.
 
Lily Ellis posted another shutout to tack on her school record (21). Ellis was also credited with seven saves to bring her career total to 153.  
 
Northwest has earned the No. 5 seed in the MIAA Tournament. The quarterfinals of this year's MIAA tournament will take place on campus sites. Northwest will be matched up Friday, Nov. 3., against No. 4-seeded Emporia State in Emporia, Kan. The semifinals and finals of the MIAA tourney will be played at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan., on Nov. 9 and 11.
