TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The Northwest Missouri State soccer team secured its third straight shutout win in 2-0 fashion over the Northeastern State University RiverHawks.
Northwest picked up sixth win of the season, third in MIAA action in moving to 6-4-5 overall and 3-2-3 in league play.
Kaylie Rock continued to be key in tonight's victory as she got the scoring started with a goal in the 22nd minute with an assist from Ekaterina Theoharidis, her second of the season.
Rock's goal gave Northwest a 1-0 cushion at the intermission.
Right after halftime in the 50th minute, Rock glided down the field to find the back of the net for her second goal of the game, unassisted. This is Rock's third game in a row, second game going back-to-back with multiple goals, and fifth multi-goal match of her career. After Rock's performance today, she brings her total goals to nine for the season.
Her nine goals this season ranks tied for the fourth-best single-season total in program history.
Goalkeeper Lily Ellis continued to keep opposing teams out of the net with 11 saves as she kept the RiverHawks from scoring a goal. Ellis moved her career save total to 133 in her 18th career shutout.
Northwest out-shot Northeastern State, 19-16. The Bearcats had eight corner kicks to six for the RiverHawks.
Northwest will continue its trek in Oklahoma as it takes on Rogers State Sunday at 1 p.m.
