The No. 12-ranked Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a three-game sweep of the Adams State University Grizzlies at the Britkare Lady Buff Classic in Canyon, Texas.
Northwest won by set scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-20.
The Bearcats hit .341 for the match and notched 14 blocks.
Avery Kemp led the offensive attack with nine kills and hit .438.
Jaden Ferguson secured a team-best six blocks.
Alyssa Rezac secured 21 assists, while
Kristen Ford notched a team-best 11 digs.
In the opening set, Northwest jumped out to a 6-0 lead and did not look back in securing a 25-12 win. The Bearcats hit .323 with 12 kills.
The Bearcats took a 2-0 lead with a 25-15 win in the second. Adams State tallied the first two points, but Northwest responded with a 7-0 run. After Adams State cut the margin to 9-7, Northwest would not allow the Grizzlies to pull within two points the remainder of the set. Northwest hit .391 with 11 kills in the second.
Northwest finished off the sweep with a 25-20 triumph in the third. The set was knotted at both 16-16 and 17-17. Northwest used a 4-0 run to take a 21-17 lead. Adams State pulled to within 22-20, only to see Northwest score the final three points of the match.
Northwest will be back in action Saturday with matches against UC Colorado Springs and No. 14-ranked West Texas A&M.
