WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The No. 32-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's tennis team tallied a 4-1 win over No. 40-ranked Midwestern State University.
MSU (10-5 overall) was able to score the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
The No. 1 doubles match featured MSU's No. 2-ranked squad of Alex Martinez Roca and Ben Westwick taking on Northwest's duo of
Andrea Zamurri and
Fillippo Piranomonte. The MSU squad hung on for a 6-4 win.
The No. 3 doubles match came down to a tiebreaker won by MSU's Marcal MIret Avante and Stephen Slocombe over Northwest's
Franco Oliva and
Fabien Calloud, 7-6 (7-5).
The No. 2 doubles match was even at 1-1 in a tiebreaker between Northwest's Simon Biergerson and
Mason Meier and MSU's Brice Bradshaw and Corbin Ford.
Northwest bounced back strong in singles action by tallying victories in the first four results.
Zamurri, ranked No. 12 in the nation, secured a three-set win over No. 16-ranked Martinez Roca, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.
No. 32-ranked Oliva notched a straight sets win (6-1, 6-4) over MSU's Bradshaw at No. 2 singles.
Calloud went back and forth with MSU's Miret Avante at No. 3 singles before prevailing in two tiebreakers, 7-6 (7-5) and 7-6 (7-2).
Meier finished off MSU with a three-set win at No. 4 singles over Westwick, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2.
