Ichabods score two wins over Bearcats in softball action

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State University softball team came up short on both ends of a doubleheader against Washburn University Saturday afternoon. 

The Bearcats lost game one in six innings by a score of 9-1, and then fell in game two, 8-4.


GAME ONE
Northwest found themselves down 4-0 heading into the third inning.

Hannah Blackford managed to get on base and was eventually able to score thanks to a Skylar Pieper single to right field. 
That would be the lone run for the Bearcats in the game as Washburn tallied five more runs in the final two innings of the game. 

Breck Dickey took the loss in the circle.

GAME TWO

Washburn got off to a hot start scoring four runs in the first inning.

Northwest came out in the second scoring two runs of their own to narrow the Ichabod lead to 4-2. Briley Kemper recorded two RBIs as she knocked in Aubrey Griffith and Hannah Blackford with a double to right-center. 

After Washburn scored two more runs, Lauren Gray hit a solo shot to right center field. Washburn came right back scoring two more runs increasing their lead to 8-3 going into the fourth. 


In the sixth inning, Hannah Blackford was able to score off of a sac fly by Sophie Mayhugh

Skylar Pieper, Hannah Blackford and Brylee Kemper recorded two hits each.


Northwest dropped to 6-29 overall and 0-10 in MIAA play.
