WICHITA, Kan. - The No. 43-ranked Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team knocked off No. 30-ranked Southeastern Oklahoma State in a non-conference match Friday afternoon.
The Bearcat women improved to 11-5 overall, while dropping the Savage Storm to 11-5 as well.
Northwest took a 1-0 lead in the dual as its No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams scored victories. The No. 2 doubles was knotted at 5-5 before the Bearcat duo of
Vera Alenicheva and
Tessa Kwakernaak came through with a 7-5 verdict.
The singles play was very even as four of the six matches went to three sets. Southeastern Oklahoma State won three of the four three-set matches, but Northwest's
Carolina Lima De Oliveira came up big at No. 5 singles and scored a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 victory to clinch the match for the Bearcats.
Northwest's other two singles wins came at No. 1 from
Vera Alenicheva in a 6-3, 6-3 triumph and at No. 4 singles from
Sofia Pignataro with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
