Hornets capture doubleheader sweep of Bearcats

EMPORIA, Kan. - The Emporia State Hornets kept the Northwest Missouri State University softball team winless in MIAA play by scoring identical 8-0, five-inning victories on both ends of a doubleheader.

GAME ONE
Northwest found themselves trying to fight back from the start as Emporia went on to score at least one run in every inning.

The Hornets were up 5-0 heading into the fifth. Northwest was held scoreless, and Emporia managed to score three runs to secure the win in five innings with a score of 8-0.

Raven Defrain pitched four of the five innings. Breck Dickey came in to relieve her.

Northwest registered six hits, while giving up 12 hits in the loss.

GAME TWO
The struggles continued for the Bearcats in game two as Emporia tallied three runs in both the first and second innings.

The Bearcats failed to score as the Hornets increased their lead to 7-0 going into the fifth. They scored one more in the fifth to end the game with a score of 8-0.

Hayden Simmons started for Northwest; Christina Campbell came in for the final inning.

Hannah Blackford and Brylee Kemper each went 2-for-2 at the plate as they accounted for four of Northwest's five hits in the game.

Northwest is now 6-27, (0-8 MIAA) and will be back in action tomorrow at Washburn.
