No. 10 Augustana completes sweep of Bearcat softball

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The No. 10-ranked Augustana Vikings swept a non-conference doubleheader Friday against the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat softball team.
 
Augustana won game one, 8-6, and game two in five innings, 18-0.
 
Augustana improved to 6-3 on the season, while Northwest dropped to 5-16 overall.
 
GAME ONE
Augustana tallied an 8-4 victory in the opening game.
 
The Vikings recorded a pair of first-inning home runs to take a 5-0 lead.
 
Jacee Winn reached on an error to give Northwest its first base runner of the contest. Olivia Daugherty followed with a deep shot to left to pull the Bearcats to within, 5-2.
 
The Vikings added two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to up their advantage to 8-2.
 
Northwest got a run back in the bottom of the fifth. Aubrey Griffith delivered an RBI single down the left field line to score Daugherty for his second run of the game.
 
Daugherty hit her second home run of the game in the seventh to close out the scoring at 8-4.
 
Christina Campbell took the loss as she pitched 3 1/3 innings. Campbell allowed nine hits and seven runs (six earned).
 
Breck Dickey pitched the final 3 2/3 and allowed three hits. Augie was able to score one run off Dickey as she struck out four Viking batters.
 
GAME TWO
The Vikings' run explosion began in the first with a grand slam.
 
Augustana added three runs in the second and six more in the third. The Vikings pushed across five runs in the fourth and closed out the shutout in the fifth, 18-0.
