Bearcat men's basketball lands four on MIAA academic recognition list

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced the 2021-22 Men's Basketball Academic Awards. Twelve of the MIAA's 14 men's basketball playing institutions were represented for the student-athletes' hard work in the classroom.

The Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball team had four student-athletes receive MIAA academic recognition for their work in the classroom on the court.

The prestigious MIAA Academic Excellence Award was achieved by just three men's basketball student-athletes: Newman's Chase Wiebe, Northeastern State's Dillion Bailey and Pittsburg State's Ryan Rippins. An MIAA Academic Excellence Award recipient must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of at least 4.00 at the certifying member institution. The honoree also must have at least two terms of grades reported at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. The Scholar-Athlete distinction went to just three student-athletes: Central Missouri's Gaven Pinkley and Fort Hays State's Jared Vitztum and Nyjee Wright. A Scholar-Athlete is an individual that has a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.50 or better at the certifying member institution. They must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. In the Academic Honor Roll category, 53 student-athletes were mentioned. To be recognized on the Academic Honor Roll, one must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.00 or above at the certifying member institution. The individual must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.
