Northwest posts shutout of Washburn, 7-0

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team posted a 7-0 shutout of the Washburn University Ichabods Tuesday afternoon at Bearcat Field.

Northwest improved to 9-19 overall and 5-12 as the Bearcats captured their third win in four games. Washburn fell to 21-9 overall and 12-5 in league play.

Head coach Darin Loe turned to Jonny McIntyre to start the contest on the mound. McIntyre entered the game having appeared in two games and three innings on the season.

McIntyre was stellar in five innings of work. McIntyre struck out four Ichabods and allowed only four hits. He did not allow a walk. McIntyre allowed one hit in the final 10 batters he faced.

Colin Shreves entered in the sixth and was equally as strong on the bump. Shreves picked up his first save of the season as he worked the final four innings in relief. Shreves allowed one hit and one walk, while striking out one. Shreves retired the first six batters he faced. He did not allow a hit until the ninth, but that runner was erased by a game-ending double play.

The Bearcat offense took full advantage of four Ichabod errors. Northwest scored five unearned runs in the victory.

Drew Mackie drove in the first run of the game as Ethan Judd crossed the plate in the third after two Washburn errors set the table for the Bearcats. Donovan Warren brought home the second run on a sacrifice fly to center that scored Cole Slibowski. Judd and Slibowski each reached base on a Washburn error.

Northwest added a pair of runs in the fifth as both  Warren and Ryan Koski drew bases loaded walks.

Warren knocked in two more in the sixth on a two-run triple to right that scored Brett Holden and Pinkerton.

Judd lifted a sac fly to right that was just deep enough to allow Koski to slide in front of the tag to give Northwest a 7-0 cushion.

Northwest will return to action this Friday, Saturday and Sunday in a three-game set with the Newman Jets at Bearcat Field.
