Northwest women's tennis defeats No. 25 Nebraska-Kearney, 4-3

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Cold weather forced the Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team to play indoors at the Genesis Courts Sunday, but it did not prevent the Bearcats from knocking off the No. 25-ranked Nebraska-Kearney Lopers, 4-3.

Northwest scored its second straight MIAA dual victory to move to 2-0 in league action. The Bearcats are 10-4 overall. The Lopers dropped to 7-7 overall and 0-2 in MIAA dual matches.

Northwest drew first blood by gaining the doubles point. The Bearcats No. 2 doubles duo of Vera Alenicheva and Tessa Kwakernakk picked up a 6-2 win over UNK's Narindra Ranaivo and Masha Hatouka. Northwest's No. 3 doubles pairing of Julia Aliseda and Sofia Pignataro tallied a 6-3 triumph over UNK's Alexis Bernthal and Pranathi Gannavaram.

The singles play proved to be very even between the MIAA foes. UNK scored singles wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4. The Bearcats secured two three-set victories at No. 2 singles from Aliseda and at No. 5 singles from Carolina DeOliveira. Northwest's Angela per Moreno delivered a straight-sets win at No. 6 singles over UNK's Clare Plachy 7-6, 6-3.
