Newman drops Northwest in softball twinbill

WICHITA, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State University softball team faced off in a double header Saturday at Newman University.

The Bearcats took losses in both games as the Jets won game one in six innings, 9-1, and game two in five innings, 12-4.

GAME ONE
Olivia Daugherty started the Bearcats off with a homer to left field to give Northwest a 1-0 lead. Newman closed the first inning scoring three runs.

The Jets held Northwest scoreless for the remainder of the game while they went on to score six more runs making the final score 9-1.

Breck Dickey gave up 10 hits and seven runs. Hayden Simmons gave up three hits and two runs.

GAME TWO
Northwest fell behind early as Newman scored two runs in the first inning, and three more in the third.

Going into the fourth inning Northwest found themselves down 5-0. The Bearcats began to claw their way back scoring four runs of their own which closed the Newman lead to 5-4.

Newman went on to tally four more runs in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth. The game ended in five innings with a score of 12-4 in favor of the Jets.
Raven Defrain gave up five runs in the loss while Hayden Simmons gave up seven.

Northwest is now 6-25 (0-6 MIAA).
