MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team pounded out a 13-3, eight-inning victory over the visiting Northeastern State University RiverHawks.
The Bearcats (7-18 overall, 3-11 MIAA) registered a season-high 17 hits and starting pitcher
Max Spitzmiller went the distance as he scattered five hits.
The RiverHawks tallied an unearned run in the first to take a 1-0 lead.
The Bearcats answered back quickly in the bottom half of the first when
Donovan Warren uncorked a two-run homer. Northwest's
Cole Slibowski drove in
Ryan Williams and
Ryan Koski on a single to up the lead to 4-1.
Jacob Pinkerton ripped an RBI double that scored Diel to stake Northwest to a 5-1 lead.
Ryan Koski hit the first of his two home runs in the third.
Pinkerton singled home Diel in the fourth. Warren followed with a two-RBI single to plate both
Brett Holden and Pinkerton to put the Bearcats on top, 9-1.
NSU tallied a two-run home run off Spitzmiller in the fifth to cut the lead to 9-3.
Slibowski got one of the runs back in the fifth with an RBI single that scored Diel.
Koski ripped his second home run of the game in the seventh to push the Bearcat advantage to 12-3.
Warren finished off the RiverHawks with an RBI single in the eighth to plate Pinkerton and give Northwest a 10-run rule win.
Warren led the offensive attack by going 4-for-5 with five RBI.
Drew Mackie went 3-for-5, while Koski went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. Diel went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Slibowski also tallied a two-hit day by going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Spitzmiller tallied his fourth complete game of the season and moved to 3-5. Spitzmiller struck out nine and walked two. He allowed three runs (two earned).
The Bearcats and RiverHawks will meet again Sunday in game two of the three-game series at 2 p.m. at the Bearcat Baseball Field.
