EDMOND, Okla. – The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat softball team took on No. 19-ranked Central Oklahoma in a doubleheader Friday afternoon.
The Bronchos won game one, 8-2, and game two in five innings, 12-2.
The Bearcats dropped to 6-23 (0-4 MIAA), while the Bronchos moved to 27-5 (6-0 MIAA).
GAME ONE
Central Oklahoma posted an 8-2 victory over Northwest in the opening game.
Both teams were able to get on the board in the second inning.
Hannah Blackford scored on a wild pitch to allow the Bearcats to take an early 1-0. That lead was short lived as the Bronchos closed out the inning with seven runs of their own to make the score 7-1.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the fifth when UCO extended the lead to 8-1 after scoring a run.
Hannah Blackford recorded her second run of the day courtesy of a
Grace Ruehle double to left field in the seventh inning.
Raven Defrain took the loss giving up nine hits along with seven earned runs.
Hayden Simmons gave up four hits and one run.
GAME TWO
UCO brought in nine runs in the first and second innings combined.
In the top of the third,
Skylar Pieper tripled to right field, scoring Briley Kemper. Pieper was able to score as
Jacee Winn grounded out to second base making the score 9-2.
The Bronchos answered by scoring three runs in the third. Central Oklahoma went on to win in five innings with a score of 12-2.
The Bearcats are back in action tomorrow in another doubleheader against Newman in Wichita, Kan.
