EMPORIA, Kan. - The Emporia State University Hornets claimed the rubber match in a three-game MIAA series with the Northwest Missouri State University baseball team at Glennen Field.
The Hornets (10-16 overall, 4-9 MIAA) out-hit the Bearcats (6-18 overall, 2-11 MIAA) by a count of 10-7.
Alex Slocum took the loss as he fell to 2-3 on the year.
Drew Mackie smacked a pair of solo home runs and drove in another run with a single to account for the Bearcat offense. Mackie launched a home run in the first to left field to stake Northwest to a 1-0 lead. He drove in
Jake Emhardt with a single in the sixth to pull Northwest to within 3-2. Mackie ripped his second homer of the contest in the eighth to trim the ESU lead to 4-3.
Mackie went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI against the Hornets from the three-spot in the order.
The Hornets would add three runs in the eighth to push the lead out to 7-3.
Northwest will return to the diamond Tuesday for a non-conference game against Rockhurst. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at the Loyola Park Baseball Field in Kansas City, Mo.
