KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State University softball team earned a split of a doubleheader Wednesday at Truman State.

The Bulldogs scored a 12-6 victory in game one. Northwest bounced back with a resounding 16-1 win in five innings in the nightcap.

GAME ONE
Northwest took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth before Truman State pushed across 12 runs in its next three at-bats.

Skylar Pieper singled home
Aubrey Griffith in the top of the second to give Northwest a 1-0 lead.

Northwest tallied three runs in the third. The first run scored on a throwing error by the Bulldogs. Then
Olivia Daugherty made the Bulldogs pay with a two-run blast to left-center to give the Bearcats a 4-0 advantage.

TSU answered with a three-run double and scored on the benefit of a Bearcat throwing error to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth.

Abby Nolte homered to center in the fifth to give Northwest its last lead of the game at 5-4.

Truman State tallied a two-run rally in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-5 lead.

Lauren Gray lifted a sacrifice fly to right that plated
Hannah Blackford to knot the matchup at 6-6.

The Bulldogs used a six-run outburst in the sixth to take the game, 12-6.

Blackford went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Jacee Win went 2-for-4. Daugherty led the 'Cats with two RBI on her two-run homer.

Raven Defrain took the loss in relief.
Breck Dickey pitched the first four innings and allowed four runs (three earned). Defrain pitched the final two innings and allowed eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits.

GAME TWO
The Bearcats belted four home runs and cruised to a 16-1, five-inning victory in the second game.
Â
Nolte went 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. Winn went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Daugherty went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. Blackford went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Ady Watts went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI.

The Bearcats softball team will be back in action at home Friday against the Augustana Vikings. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the Bearcat Softball Field.
