MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat softball team faced off in doubleheader action at home Saturday afternoon.
In game one, Northwest faced Concordia-St. Paul, and in game two it faced Winona State. The Bearcats recorded losses in both contests.
GAME ONE
Concordia-St. Paul posted an 8-4 victory over the Bearcats in the opening game.
CSP posted six runs after two innings and held the Bearcats scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when they tallied three runs to cut the lead to 6-3.
The Bearcats gave up two more runs in the sixth. They battled back to record another run in the seventh, but they came up short and the game ended with an 8-4 loss.
Breck Dickey took the loss giving up six runs, all earned.
Raven Defrain gave up two runs in relief.
GAME TWO
Winona State tallied a 24-3 victory in Northwest's second game of the day.
Winona State came out with a hot start scoring six runs in the first two innings. From then on, the Bearcats found themselves trying to claw their way back.
Ady Watts was able to help Northwest get on the board by hitting a solo shot to center field.
Winona State went on to collect twelve combined runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Northwest was only able to score two more runs in the game. The Bearcats took the 24-8 loss after five innings.
Pitchers
Hayden Simmons and
Christina Campbell each were tagged for 12 runs in the loss.
After the day's play, Northwest has a record of 5-20.
The Bearcats are back in action at home tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Winona State and at 3 p.m. against Concordia-St. Paul.
