Bearcats drop non-conference affair to Marauders, 9-3

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team dropped a 9-3 non-conference affair Wednesday to the University of Mary Marauders at the Bearcat Baseball Field.

Northwest dropped its fifth consecutive game to fall to 5-16 on the season. The University of Mary improved to 7-5 on the year.

Northwest was out-hit in the game, 10-4. Northwest committed two errors, while Mary did not make an error.

The Marauders took advantage of a first-inning error by shortstop Jacob Pinkerton that allowed two unearned runs to score. With two out and a runner on first, Pinkerton fielded a grounder and tossed wildly to first to keep the inning alive for the visitors. Mary's Ty Jones took advantage of the miscue with an RBI to left that was mis-played by Bearcat outfielder Caden Opfer which allowed a second run to score.

Bearcat starter Jace Davidson yielded five walks in the second inning which allowed the Marauders to plate three more runs and take a 5-0 lead.

Northwest tallied its first run of the game in the third on a two-out RBI double from Cole Slibowski. Slibowski drove in Tyler Peters, who had reached on a walk and moved up to second on a wild pitch.

The Marauders added a single run in the fourth and two more in the seventh to up the lead to 9-1.

Northwest loaded the bases without the benefit of a hit in the seventh via two hit by pitches and a walk. Ryank Koski coasted across home plate on a wild pitch for Northwest's only run of the inning.

The Bearcats tallied a sacrifice fly from Alex Bowers in the ninth to plate Jake Emhardt for the final run of the contest.

Davidson took the loss, his first decision of the season. Davidson worked 1 2/3 innings and allowed five runs (three earned). He was tagged for three hits and five walks.

Colin Shreves came on in relief in the second and pitched 4 2/3 innings. He allowed four runs (all earned) on seven hits. Shreves struck out five and walked none.

Jonny McIntyre pitched the final 2 2/3 innings of hitless baseball.

Northwest will travel to Emporia, Kan., to take on the Emporia State University Hornets in a three-game set beginning Friday.
