MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 29-ranked Cameron University Aggies knocked off the No. 47-ranked Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat men's tennis team in a battle of ITA-ranked foes Monday on the Frank Grube Courts at the Rosewell Tennis Center, 4-3.
The Aggies are 6-4 overall, while Northwest is 3-3 on the year.
The Aggies won a hotly-contested doubles point that featured a pair of tiebreakers at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Northwest got the win at No. 1 doubles from
Andrea Zamurri and
Franco Oliva, but Cameron scored the victory at No. 2 doubles. Coupled with a Cameron win at No. 3 doubles gave the Aggies a key point in the dual.
The squads would split the singles competition with three wins each. No. 5-ranked Zamurri tallied his win in three sets at No. 1 singles against Cameron's Tomas Almeida, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3.
Fabien Calloud captured a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles over Kristian Kubik.
Mason Meier managed a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 5 singles over Cameron's Alvaro Chaves.
