EMPORIA, Kan. – The Emporia State University men's basketball snapped a nine-game losing streak against the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats at White Auditorium with a 75-56 victory.

Emporia State improves to 17-6 overall and 12-5 in the MIAA, while Northwest drops to 21-3 overall and 14-2 in league play.

ESU's Tray Buchanan scored a game-high 29 points and his teammate Jumah'Ri Turner contributed 20 points in the win.

Northwest was led in scoring by junior
Trevor Hudgins. Hudgins tallied 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting. He tied the MIAA single-season record for made three-pointers at 118.

Luke Waters went 7-of-9 from the floor and reached double-figure scoring with 16 points.

Northwest led the contest 11-6 but Emporia State hit the Bearcats with a 10-0 run to take the lead 16-11 with 8:47 to play. Emporia State would not trail the rest of the way.

The Hornets built a 32-18 lead at the break. ESU forced Northwest into nine first-half turnovers. The Hornets had only two first-half miscues.

Northwest could not cut the lead below 12 points in the second half.

ESU hit on 49.1% of its shots, while Northwest shot 37.7% from the floor. ESU went 6-of-19 from three-point range. Northwest connected only 5-of-26 from deep.

Northwest will remain on the road and travel to Pittsburg State for a Thursday matchup with the Gorillas. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. in Pittsburg, Kan.
