Second-half barrage boosts No. 5 'Cats past Blue Tigers, 96-63

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 5-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball team overcame a 19-point first-half deficit with a blistering 69-point second half to post a 96-63 victory over the visiting Lincoln Blue Tigers at Bearcat Arena.

Northwest improved to 18-2 overall and 11-1 in MIAA play. Lincoln fell to 1-14 overall and 0-10 in league action.

Lincoln bounced out to a 32-13 first-half lead on Northwest's home floor. Northwest struggled in the first 16 minutes of the game making only 4-of-18 field goal attempts. Northwest missed nine of its first 10 three-pointers in the game before Wes Dreamer connected on a triple with 1:52 left in the opening half. Trevor Hudgins sank a three-pointer with :30 left in the half to pull Northwest to within 36-27 at the break.

The Bearcat second-half blitz was ushered in with a 52-8 run that included the final 3:58 of the first half and the first 8:27 of the second half. 

The Bearcats buried 14-of-17 three-pointers in the second half, including a stretch of 10 straight makes from the 16:09 mark to the 8:36 mark.

The 69-point second half nearly eclipsed the MIAA record for points in a second half. Missouri S&T holds the MIAA record with 74 second-half points vs. Arkansas Baptist set on Nov. 22, 1992.

Northwest made 24-of-27 second-half field goals to shoot 88.9% from the floor. Abilene Christian holds the NCAA Division II record for field goal percentage in a half by shooting 95.0% (19-of-20 FGs) vs. Cameron on Jan. 21, 1989. 

Hudgins finished the contest with a game-high 29 points on 11-of-15 shooting, including 7-of-11 from three-point range. Hudgins made all six of the three-point shots he took in the second half. Hudgins also dished out a team-high seven assists.

Northwest will be back in action Saturday at home against the Central Missouri Mules. Tip is set for 3:30 p.m. at Bearcat Arena.

NOTES: Trevor Hudgins passed Zach Schneider for the all-time three-point field goals mark in the contest with seven triples to give him 372 for his career ... Schneider sank 370 from 2013-17 ...
