The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team is off to a 2-0 start on the season after a 4-2 win over Wayne State. Three Bearcats scored goals and registered 12 shots on goal.
Teagan Blackburn led Northwest with two goals scored and an assist while
Annelize Aleixo and
Kaylie Rock each scored goals as well.
Hannah Stirling and
Linsi Mashburn each recorded one assist.
The Bearcats got off to fast start, with Aleixo scoring from nearly midfield at the 9:14 mark. The Wildcats would respond to even things at one goal apiece in the 27th minute, but Blackburn would lead the response with a goal assisted by Mashburn at 38:50. Wayne State's Skylar Stueckrath tied the game again just before halftime with a goal at 40:19.Â
The second half proved to be all Bearcats, as Blackburn registered her second goal, this time from Stirling in the 74th minute while Rock added another insurance goal from Blackburn at 83:16.Â
Northwest will meet Grand Valley next Friday in Warrensburg for more non-conference action. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. The Bearcats will also meet Minnesota State next Sunday at Bearcat Pitch.Â
NOTES: Rock registered her second goal of the season in today's match, making it her fifth career goal ... Aleixo scored her first goal as a Bearcat and registered two shots on goal ...
