Game Recap: Soccer |

Minnesota State sneaks past Northwest

The Northwest Missouri State soccer team played a tight match with Minnesota State until the 76th minute, when the Mavericks scored the first and only goal of the game. The Bearcats dropped to 2-2 on the season while the Mavericks improved to 2-1.

The first half was a back-and-forth battle the whole time, with the Bearcat defense holding Minnesota State to just four shots in the half, only one being on goal. Northwest registered seven shots, but only two were on target.

In the second half Minnesota State forward Jenny Vetter, who registered four of the Mavericks' eight shots, scored the lone goal off a free kick just outside of the Bearcat penalty area at the 76:51 mark. While the Bearcats pushed the tempo for the next thirteen minutes, they could not find the goal to force overtime.

Kaylie Rock registered four shots with two on goal while Adell Gore shot three times with two on goal. Keeper Alexis Serna Castillo recorded three saves in goal.

Northwest will travel to Warrensburg to take on Central Missouri on Friday, September 17 for their next match. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
