The Northwest Missouri State softball teams picked up two wins over Pittsburg State on Saturday. The Bearcats moved to 18-20 overall and 12-14 in conference play. With two wins today, the Bearcats have qualified for the MIAA tournament.Â
GAME ONE
Pittsburg State put up a quick run in the bottom of the first before the Bearcats answered in the top of the second with two runs of their own.
Madison Friest homered to left center, scoring
Kaitlyn Weis before
Hannah Blackford singled through the left side, scoring
Alexis Kump.Â
In the top of the third, Kump added a home run of her own, a two-run shot to right center that scored
Olivia Daugherty. In the fifth, Weis doubled and scored Daugherty before
Grace Ruehle hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth.Â
The Gorillas started to rally in the sixth, scoring three runs in the inning before adding another in the seventh, but the Bearcat defense would put the game away and come out with an 8-6 win.Â
Breck Dickey earned the win in the circle (7-8) and
Kaitlyn Weis picked up the save (6).
GAME TWO
Abby Nolte started the game off with a solo shot to center field in the second inning before the Gorillas would storm back with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame. The Bearcats would answer with five runs in the third, including a 3-run home run from Nolte that scored Weis and Daugherty.Â
In the fourth inning, Nolte's sacrifice fly would score Blackford before the Gorillas walked in two runs. Daugherty doubled in the fifth, scoring Blackford, and gave the Bearcats a 10-4 advantage. The Gorillas would attempt another rally, but the damage was done and Northwest pulled out a 10-7 win.
Raven Defrain moved to 4-4 on the season with a win on the mound and
Breck Dickey earned the save.Â
