Bearcats pick up two wins over Lincoln

The Northwest Missouri State softball team took two wins from the Lincoln Blue Tigers in MIAA doubleheader action. The Bearcats moved to 13-13 on the season and 7-7 in conference play.

The Bearcats started game one off strong in the first inning. Kaitlyn Weis tripled to score Olivia Daugherty before Abby Nolte doubled and scored Weis. Lincoln would score their lone run on the day in the top of the second inning, but the Bearcats answered back in the bottom of the third when Weis scored after a wild pitch. In the fourth inning, Northwest added another insurance run when Regan Kirby scored on Hannah Blackford's single to left field.

Weis led the Bearcat offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Breck Dickey picked up the complete-game win in the circle and moved to 5-7 on the season.

Northwest took momentum from game one and used it to score seven runs in the second inning of game two while also recording the shutout. The Bearcats added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and held Lincoln in the fifth inning to finish the game.

Weis was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in game two with a home run, a double, three RBI, and two runs scored. Ady Watts was 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored and Alexis Kump was 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored. Olivia Daugherty was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored and an RBI.

The Bearcats travel to St. Joseph, Missouri tomorrow evening for a doubleheader with Missouri Western. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
