TOPEKA, Kansas - The Southern Arkansas University Mulerider men's tennis team halted the Northwest Missouri State University's five-match win streak with a 4-0 triumph Sunday.
The Muleriders snuck out of doubles play with a tiebreak victory at No. 1 doubles to take the crucial point. Northwest's
Fabien Calloud and
Agustin Velasco scored a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles. However, SAU's Sofiane Bah and Sander Jans tallied a 7-6 (8-6) win over Northwest's
Andrea Zamurri and
Franco Oliva for the decisive match.
SAU closed out the 4-0 win with singles victories at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5. The No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 singles matches were not completed.
The Bearcat men will travel to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to take on the Augustana Vikings next Sunday at 2 p.m.
Northwest is ranked No. 19 in the nation with a 11-3 overall mark. Northwest and Southern Arkansas own identical 6-1 MIAA/GAC records.
