MARYVILLE, Missouri – The No. 23-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's tennis team served and volleyed its way to a 7-0 sweep of the Emporia State University Hornets Saturday on the Frank Grube Courts at the
Mark Rosewell Tennis Center.
The Bearcats ran their record to 9-2 overall and a perfect 5-0 in MIAA matches.
Northwest took care of business in doubles play by winning all three matches to secure a 1-0 lead. Northwest's No. 3 doubles team of
Agustin Velasco and
Fabien Calloud won their sixth straight match to move to 8-1 on the year.
The Bearcats swept the singles action and dropped only two sets on the day. Bearcat No. 1
Andrea Zamurri rolled to 11-0 on the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over ESU's Luiz Maia. At No. 6 singles, Velasco won his fourth straight match with a 6-0, 6-4 thumping of ESU's Theo Belmonte.
Northwest will travel to Kansas City Wednesday to take on Rockhurst at 3 p.m.
