The Northwest Missouri State softball team fell to Upper Iowa in its first game at the Missouri Western Hy-Vee Classic.
The Bearcats jumped out in the top of the first inning with bases loaded, but Upper Iowa forced a strikeout and a ground out to second base ended the Bearcat push. The Peacocks plated one unearned run in the bottom of the first on two hits and one error in the frame. The Bearcats rallied in the top of the second and
Ady Watts scored on a
Jacee Winn single to left field.Â
The Peacocks would come back in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs of their own. The two teams would trade zeros back and forth until
Kaitlyn Weis scored on
Raven Defrain's single up the middle. The damage was done and the Bearcats were held for the remainder of the inning, letting Upper Iowa escape with the narrow win.Â
Winn led the Bearcats, going 3-for-4 at the plate and picking up an RBI while
Madison Friest was 2-for-4.
Hannah Blackford, Defrain, and Aly Anderson all recorded hits in the Northwest loss.Â
