The No. 3-seeded Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team will travel to Warrensburg, Mo., Friday for the semifinals of the 2021 MIAA Tournament.
The Bearcats (13-5-1) will take their program-best five-match winning streak into a semifinal matchup with the Emporia State Hornets (16-2-1). Kick is set for 12 p.m. at the South Recreation Complex. The winner of the Northwest-ESU matchup will face the winner of the No. 1-seeded Central Missouri vs. No. 4-seeded Central Oklahoma match on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Emporia State holds a 16-11-2 lead in the all-time series with Northwest. The Hornets picked up a 4-1 win over the Bearcats on Oct. 3 in Maryville, Mo. Friday's game will mark the second meeting between the two programs in MIAA Tournament play. ESU scored a 3-2 double-overtime victory over Northwest in the 2019 MIAA Tournament quarterfinals in Emporia, Kan. Northwest recorded a 4-2 win over Emporia State in the 2011 MIAA Tournament quarterfinals in Kansas City, Mo.
Northwest has won a program-best five matches in a row and eight of its last nine matches. The Bearcats reached the semifinals with a convincing 5-0 win over the Washburn Ichabods in Maryville, Mo., on Sunday. The victory was Northwest's second all-time in MIAA Tournament play. Northwest defeated Emporia State, 4-2, in a quarterfinal match in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 3, 2011, for its only other previous MIAA Tournament victory.

The Bearcats are looking for their first appearance in the MIAA Tournament championship game. Northwest is 0-1 all-time in MIAA semifinal matches having dropped a 4-0 decision to Central Missouri on Nov. 4, 2011, in Kansas City.

Kaylie Rock recorded Northwest's ninth all-time hat track in the victory over the Ichabods. Rock has scored 10 goals, one away from the Northwest single-season mark for goals scored. Rock has also produced a team-high tying 23 points on the year.

Teagan Blackburn (Council Bluffs, Iowa) ranks second in the MIAA in game-winning goals (5). Blackburn ranks tied for No. 5 in the MIAA in goals scored (9). She also ranks tied for No. 5 in the MIAA in points scored (23). Blackburn has been credited with 14 career goals, which ranks No. 4 on Northwest's all-time goals scored chart.

The Bearcats have had plenty of success this season in overtime matches. Northwest is 3-0-1 in overtime matches. Northwest and Central Missouri tied 2-2 on Sept. 26. Since then, Northwest has recorded three consecutive road overtime victories over Nebraska-Kearney (2-1, OT), Fort Hays State (1-0, 2OT) and Missouri Southern (W, 2-1 2OT).
Northwest is nearly the same team at home as it has been on the road this season. Northwest is 7-2-1 at home and 6-2-0 on the road. It's only the second time in school history the Bearcats have produced a winning record on the road. The 2012 Bearcats went 4-3-1. The six road victories are also a program best in a single season.
