MARVYILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University soccer team advanced to the 2021 MIAA Tournament semifinals with a 5-0 shutout triumph over the visiting Washburn University Ichabods.
Northwest (13-5-1 overall) earned the program's second MIAA Tournament win. Washburn fell to 9-7-2. It was the second straight 5-0 win for Northwest over Washburn this season at the Bearcat Pitch.
Kaylie Rock netted a hat trick as she scored her 8th, 9th and 10th goals on the season. Two other Bearcats tallied their first goals of the season as
Sophie Cissell and
Emma Franklin each put a ball into the back of the net.
Northwest's offense got clicking in the first half with a trio of goals. Rock scored the game's first goal 7:32 into the contest. Her goal came on assists from Cissell and
Annelize Aleixo. Cissell got into the scoring act at the 22:37 mark to give Northwest a 2-0 advantage on an unassisted goal. Rock knocked in her second goal at 31:37 o a pass from
Teagan Blackburn that put Northwest up 3-0 at the break.
Rock poured in her third goal only a minute into the second half at 46:01.Â
Kaitlyn Case assisted on Rock's score. Franklin ended the game's scoring with her initial goal of the season at the 88:39 mark. Her goal came off passes from
Jessie Brown andÂ
Atiana Stratman.

Ashley Williams stopped six shots that were sent her way to record her sixth shutout of the season.
Northwest will take on No. 2-seeded Emporia State Friday in Warrensburg, Mo. The Bearcats will play in the first MIAA semifinal set to begin at 12 p.m. No. 1-seeded Central Missouri will play host to No. 4-seeded Central Oklahoma at 3 p.m. in the second semifinal. The championship match is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. in Warrensburg.
NOTES: Cissell set the Northwest single-season assist mark with her seventh assist in the victory over the Ichabods ... Rock is one goal away from tying the Northwest single-season goal mark set by Tammie Eiberger and Victoria Von Mende in 2011 ... Williams has six shutouts, which is also one more shutout away from tying the Northwest single-season shutout mark of eight set by Kira Lazenby in both 2008 and 2009.
