Game Recap: Soccer |

Bearcats survive Lopers in OT, 2-1

The Northwest Missouri State soccer team picked up a 2-1 win in overtime over Nebraska-Kearney in MIAA action. Despite the close game, the Bearcats posted a 17-7 shot advantage over UNK with nine shots on goal.

The Lopers jumped out to a 2-0 shot advantage early in the first half, but the Bearcats would gain momentum that eventually led to a Kaylie Rock goal, her fifth of the season, from Annelize Aleixo.

At the halftime break, Northwest led UNK in shots, 7-4, and shots on goal, 5-3.

UNK challenged the Bearcats in the second half, taking only three shots but scoring a goal to knot the game at 1-1. Despite pressuring the Loper defense, Northwest could not find the net and the match was sent into overtime.

With a quick sequence to push down the field, Rock took a shot that bounced off a UNK defender and resulted in an own goal and a 2-1 Bearcat victory.

Northwest moves to 6-4-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in the MIAA. The Bearcats travel to Fort Hays for another test on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. in Hays, Kansas.

Notes: Northwest is now 1-0-1 in overtime this season, a 2-2 draw the result of an earlier match with Central Missouri … the last match between UNK and Northwest resulted in a 1-1 (2OT) draw in 2019 … there have been three 1-1 ties in Bearcat/Loper history … the Lopers have never scored more than one goal against Northwest.
