Bearcats finish regular season home schedule with 1-0 win over Newman

The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team overcame grueling weather conditions to pick up a 1-0 win over Newman. The Bearcats improved to 10-5-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the MIAA.

Despite having possession just 41 percent through the first half, the Bearcats managed to defend their own goal and find their tempo to carry them through to second period. After regrouping during the halftime break, Northwest's control and possession significantly changed from the first half.

The Bearcats pressured the Jets' defense, recording 12 of their 14 total shots in the second half, including a Hannah Stirling goal that ricocheted off Newman's goalie after a Kaylie Rock shot. While the Bearcats continued pressing, the weather took a turn for the worse, resulting in a lightning delay with just 11 minutes remaining.

After the delay, Northwest kept the ball on their attacking side of the pitch, but again just missed the goal on several attempts late in the game.

The Bearcats will finish out the regular season on the road before preparing for the conference tournament. Northwest will travel to Missouri Western on Friday, October 29 for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Griffons.

Notes: With a win in today's match, the 2021 Bearcats have tied the second-most wins in a season with 10 ... Northwest's last 10-win season came in 2011 ... with today's shutout, the Bearcats have five total shutouts and tied for fourth in a season ... Hannah Stirling recorded her second career goal ... with 32 goals on the season, the 2021 Bearcats have recorded the second most goals in a season (35 in 2011).
