PITTSBURG, Kan. - The No. 6-ranked Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team moved its win streak to 10 in a row with a four-set win over the Pittsburg State University Gorillas.
Northwest (17-2 overall, 10-1 MIAA) won by set scores of 25-22, 20-25, 25-22 and 25-21.

Kelsey Havel paced the Bearcats with 20 kills (.359), 12 digs and two service aces. Redshirt freshman
Payton Kirchhoefer hit .356 with 17 kills and added a solo block. Sophomore
Jaden Ferguson pounded down 10 kills and recorded a solo block. Sophomore setter
Alyssa Rezac notched a double-double with 44 assists and 14 digs.

Northwest captured the opening set for the 11th time this season and moved to 10-1 when winning the first set. The match was knotted at 17-17 before Northwest used a 6-1 run to take control. Havel started early and often by securing five kills and seven digs, while Kirchhoefer notched four kills. Northwest hit .372 and held off a hot-hitting PSU squad that recorded a .378 hitting percentage. Northwest enjoyed a 65% sideout effort in the set, while PSU was only able to side out at 41%.

The Gorillas evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-20 triumph in the second. PSU hit .229 with 17 kills and six errors, while Northwest was limited to .119 hitting percentage with 10 kills and five errors. The Bearcats had a 50% side out effort in the second.

Northwest took a 2-1 lead in the third with a 25-22 victory. The third set featured 11 ties and five lead changes. The set was even at 21-21 and then Northwest was able to score four of the next five points. Northwest leaned on Kirchhoefer in the third as she recorded six kills in 17 swings. The Bearcats hit .311 in the third set with 17 kills and three errors. Northwest enjoyed a 60% side out percentage in the third.

The Bearcats were able to close out the match in the fourth with a 25-21 win. The fourth set had 11 ties and four lead changes. The set was level at 18-18 before Northwest tallied a 6-1 spurt to seal the victory. Havel did the heavy lifting with eight kills in nine swings. Northwest hit .250 with 16 kills and six errors. PSU hit .128 with 11 kills and six errors. Northwest had a 61% side out effort in the fourth, while PSU was able to side out at 51%.

Northwest will travel to Joplin, Mo., for a Saturday 3 p.m. matchup with the Missouri Southern Lions.
