Northwest Missouri State sophomore forward
Kaylie Rock scored the deciding goal in the Bearcats 2-1 double overtime win over Central Oklahoma. This was the first ever win for Northwest since the all-time series began in 2012. Northwest improves to 9-5-1 on the season and 5-2-1 in conference play.
From kickoff, the fast-paced game was tight with both teams holding nearly identical possession time in their respective attacking directions. Despite the Bearcats outshooting the Bronchos 8-4 in the first half, Central Oklahoma netted a goal towards the middle of the period. Northwest could not answer in the half, leaving them with a 1-0 deficit at the halftime break.Â
In the second half, the Bearcats increased the tempo and put pressure on the Broncho defense. While recording 11 shots in the second half, it took Northwest nearly the whole second period to find the goal and tie the game. But after a foul on Central Oklahoma was called in the Bearcat attacking half,
Sydney Mueller took the shot and found the top left corner of the net to keep Northwest in the game with just three minutes to play.Â
With neither team finding a way to score and end the game after regulation play, the half ended in a 1-1 tie. With both teams still trying to find a rhythm in the first extra period, a second overtime was needed to decide the final result.
After both sides forced pressure in their attacking halves,
Ashton Dain led Rock with a long ball up the field, where Rock then edged out Broncho defenders to find an open shot in the right corner and take the match with the golden goal.Â
The Bearcats will stay at home for senior day on Sunday as they take on Newman. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
