HAYS, Kan. - The No. 13-ranked Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat volleyball team breezed to a three-set win over Fort Hays State University Saturday afternoon at Gross Memorial Arena.
Northwest won by set scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-9. Northwest improved to 11-2 overall and 4-1 in MIAA play, while FHSU fell to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in league action.
Northwest hit .392 for the match with 51 kills and only 11 attack errors.
Jaden Ferguson led the way with 13 kills and a .684 hitting percentage.
Payton Kirchhoefer pounded down 11 kills and hit .296 with three attack errors.
Alyssa Rezac handed out 39 assists and tallied two service aces.
The Bearcats took control early by hitting .395 in the opening set. Northwest netted 18 kills against three attack errors. Northwest did not trail in the first set en route to a 25-18 triumph.
Northwest pounced to a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 victory in the second set. The Bearcats hit .378 with 19 kills and sided out at a 76% clip.
The third set featured total domination from the 'Cats. Northwest cruised to a 25-9 match-clinching win. Northwest sided out at 88% and hit .407.
Northwest will hit the road again next weekend with matches at Newman and Central Oklahoma.
