Bearcats end road trip with loss to Riverhawks

The Northwest Missouri State soccer team dropped a 2-1 match to Northeastern State to end a three-game win streak. This was Northwest's sixth straight loss to the Riverhawks in their all-time matchup history. Northwest is now 8-5-1 on the season and 4-2-1 in conference matches.

The first half was an even battle that ended in a 0-0 score after both teams recorded four shots and Northeastern recorded three saves in goal while Bearcat keeper Ashley Williams tallied one save.

Kaylie Rock scored her sixth goal of the season in the first 10 minutes of the second half, giving the Bearcats the advantage they were looking for. But Northeastern would move the ball down the field quickly and even the match with a goal less than a minute later.

The Riverhawks continued pressing the ball and wearing down Bearcat defenders and scored another goal to gain the 2-1 advantage at 62:25, giving the Bearcats just under 28 minutes to find the goal to stay in the game. Despite recording five shots in that time, the Riverhawk defense stayed strong and the keeper made one save in goal to hold on for the win.

The Bearcats will return to Maryville to take on Central Oklahoma on Friday, October 22 at Bearcat Pitch. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
