BEARCATS MEET LINCOLN, CENTRAL MISSOURI ON THE ROAD
The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team takes to the road this week for match ups at Lincoln and Central Missouri. The Jennies just edged the Bearcats before Northwest exploded against Lincoln earlier this season.
Northwest is 15-5 overall against Lincoln and 6-3 on the road against the Blue Tigers. The Bearcats have won the last three games and eight of the last ten against Lincoln, their only two losses in that span coming in the 2018-19 season. The last time the Bearcats lost to Lincoln was Feb. 9, 2019 in Jefferson City.
Central Missouri has controlled the majority of the series dating back to Jan. 12, 2000, going 31-12 against the Bearcats and winning the last 11 contests by an average of 19.1 points per contest. Northwest is 5-16 in Warrensburg with their last win against the Jennies coming on Jan. 17, 2015 in a 61-60 victory.
LAST TIME VS. LINCOLN
On Dec. 5 in Bearcat Arena, the Bearcats exploded to a 85-55 win over Lincoln.
Emma Atwood scored a team-high 16 points while
Kylie Coleman chipped in 14 points as well. While both Atwood and Coleman are out due to injury, Northwest will still have plenty of offensive weapons when they travel to Jefferson City.
Molly Hartnett,
Mallory McConkey, and
Mia Stillman all scored in double figures in the last match up with Lincoln, and freshman
Jillian Fleming (6.2 ppg, 3.6 rpg) has made her return from injury since the early December contest as well.
Â
ABOUT THE BLUE TIGERS (0-12)
Lincoln currently has three players averaging double-digit scoring. Niyah Jackson leads the team with 14.8 ppg while AJ Bradley (12.3 ppg) and Deija Jackson (10.7 ppg) are big contributors as well. Vivian Chigbu leads the team with 5.9 rpg. Niyah Jackson has also dished out 39 assists and had 18 steals while Bradley has 21 steals on the year as well.
Â
LAST TIME VS. CENTRAL MISSOURI
A Dec. 3 match up in Bearcat Arena proved to be a much closer contest than what has been typical in recent years between the Jennies and Bearcats. While the Jennies still came out victorious, 58-49, Northwest was able to hold the visitors to their second-lowest scoring total of the season.
ABOUT THE JENNIES (10-2)
The Jennies lead a balanced offensive attack with four players scoring 9.9 points/game or better. Freshman reserve Graycen Holden leads the team with 13.6 ppg while senior forward Nija Collier follows close behind with 13.5 ppg. Freshman Brooke Littrell chips in 11.7 ppg while freshman guard Olivia Nelson rounds out the top four with 9.9 ppg.
Collier (7.5 rpg, 5th in MIAA), Holden (6.5 rgp, 9th in MIAA), and Littrell (6.2 rpg, 11th in MIAA) have also been hitting the boards and all rank in the top 12 in the conference.
Nelson and Morgan VanHyfte have dished out 35 and 29 assists, respectively. Nelson's assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4) ranks sixth amongst MIAA players.
