The Bearcats (6-11, 1-2 MIAA) have relied on strong hitting throughout the early part of 2020. Northwest has three starters among the top hitters in the MIAA in base knocks. Senior first baseman
Connor Quick ranks third in the MIAA in hits (28), junior
Jacob Pinkerton sits in solo sixth (23) and junior infielder
Matt Gastner owns the seven spot, tallying 21 hits. Gastner controls the third best RBI total in the MIAA with 17.
Just 17 games into the young season, Quick leads the MIAA with a .444 batting average. Quick has 28 hits in 63 at bats and has drawn a conference-high 17 walks. Quick also leads the MIAA in on-base percentage (.566), owning a team-best 17-game reached base streak and a seven-game hitting streak.
Other notable standouts include junior infielder
Peter Carlson and sophomore outfielder
Jordan Peck currently leading the MIAA in doubles, with nine apiece.
Sophomore
Alex Slocum continues to lead Bearcat pitchers with a 3-1 record, allowing only six hits and three earned runs on 10 and 1/3 innings pitched. Slocum has walked on three batters and sits atop the Bearcat pitching staff with a 2.61 ERA.
The Hornets are riding a five-game winning streak and come into the contest with the Bearcats with an 11-6 record. Emporia State is coming off a sweep of Missouri Southern.
